Florence Jung
Etwas Fehlt

FEB 03 2018 – MAR 24 2018
von Bartha, Basel
The main subject of Florence Jung’s work can be pictured as a guy who comes home and is suddenly overwhelmed by doubt. That slamming door, those books disappearing from the country, these people around him looking so abnormally normal, like they could be actors. Taking a Mythos beer out of the fridge he wonders:
–Can uncertainty be considered belief?
Florence Jung lives in Amsterdam, as artist-in-residence at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten. She is currently on show at the Kunsthalle Basel (New Swiss Performance Now) and at the Museu Oscar Niemeyer, Brazil (Antipodes – Diverse and Reverse, 9th Curitiba Biennial, Brazil). She will have her first solo exhibition in a German institution at the Bielefelder Kunstverein, titled Mathias Sander, from 17 February – 8 April 2018. Jung was awarded the Swiss Performance Prize in 2013 and the Swiss Art Award and the Georg and Josi Guggenheim Prize in 2017.
