Emilia Bergmark
b. 1986 born in Selånger, SE / Lives and works in Copenhagen
Emilia Bergmark is a visual artist who develops poetic and humorous installations that combine sculpture, writing, interior design, film, and print. An ongoing strand of her research explores non-human objects from an anthropocentric viewpoint, analyzing and critiquing the systems by which humankind imposes order and meaning on the world. By giving voice to the non-human, she creates tragicomic scenes that poke fun at modern humanity's idiosyncrasies.
In her oeuvre, she masterfully employs diverse techniques, including weaving, photography, film, sound installations, sculpture, and painting, to create captivating and immersive experiences.
Bergmark has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows across Denmark, Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the UK, showcasing her work in international institutions and museums, such as Arken, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Malmö Konstmuseum, and Reykjavik Art Museum. Recent significant public commissions include two site-specific works in Denmark: one located in Mørkhøj Park, Gladsaxe, and another at Spurvelundskolen, Odense. Bergmark’s works have been acquired by major municipal and private foundations, including the New Carlsberg Foundation in Denmark, the Collection of Region Skåne in Sweden, and the Soho House and Saatchi Collection in the UK.
