Enter Art Fair 2025

Copenhagen
For Enter Art Fair 2025, von Bartha presents a solo installation consisting of selected works by Imi Knoebel (b. 1940 in Dessau, Germany), which have the power to deepen our gaze with both their invigorating simplicity and poetic complexity.
Gracing the walls of the von Bartha booth will be a constellation of works from two of his most groundbreaking series Kinderstern (1989/2024) and Etcetera (2023–2024).
Stars in the night sky typically prompt us to look up and beyond our own planet. Yet stars from Knoebel’s Kinderstern (1989/2024) series also invite us to turn our gaze inwards. Despite being identical in format, each monochrome hand-painted work is unique. Some are radiant, shimmering, and even garish, while others are soft, somber, and rather cool. From a distance, we humans (like stars) all appear to be the same. But at our core, we are very unlike each other, especially when it comes to the preconditions and opportunities we were given at birth.
The most recent series on aluminium asserts Knoebel’s commitment to the charitable organization Kinderstern e. V., which supports children in need, including victims of war. Three-quarters of the proceeds from each work sold support the charity. Thus, the Kinderstern series serves as both a call to action and a celebration of childhood, a shared experience that connects us all, no matter our future accomplishments.
The Etcetera (2023–2024) series has a different yet compelling story to tell. Again drawing on the entire spectrum of his color palette, Knoebel applies multiple layers of paint to create profound and palpable yet otherworldly spatial realms that are as equally ethereal as his Kinderstern stars.
