On an inspiring trip to the island of Møn in Denmark, we got the opportunity to witness the artist in her creational process and hear more about her captivating story.

After a beautiful drive along the sea, about 1,5 hours outside of Copenhagen, we arrived at the home and studio of Ursula Reuter Christiansen on Møn. Inside her picturesque home, a traditional Danish farmhouse, we sat down to talk about Ursula’s practice, how she paints and works, and what brought her to Denmark after growing up in Trier, Germany, and studying in Düsseldorf under Joseph Beuys.

Watch the video to witness the creation of her painting Courage (on view during the exhibition Auf Messers Schneide in Basel) and see the artist at work, from mixing the colors with pigments to working with brush and hands on the canvas, and listening to her soothing voice.
